Experience IRONMAN Malaysia, a tropical island triathlon adventure set against the backdrop of Langkawi's diverse landscapes. The course takes athletes through coastal roads, charming local villages, and lush forests, culminating on the stunning Cenang Beach.
The race feature distances include a 3.8 km ocean swim in warm waters, a 180 km bike ride through rolling hills, and a flat 42.2 km run along the ocean front. One of the standout features of this event is one of the only air-conditioned bike transitions on the IRONMAN circuit.
Average historical weather conditions for the event range from air temperatures of 75°F / 24°C to 91°F / 33°C, with water temperatures hovering around 82°F to 84°F (28°C to 29°C).
Athletes self-seed into dedicated start zones based on expected finish times. Pairs of athletes are released at short intervals across the start timing mat, which triggers each individual's official race time.
The 3.8 km swim takes place in the ocean with water temperatures around 28°C (82°F). The two-loop 180 km bike course heads out from Pantai Kok towards Jalan Teluk Yu in a clockwise loop around the rolling hills of Datai towards the southeastern part of the island. The 42.2 km flat run course features two laps taking athletes along the runway of Langkawi International Airport and the beach front of Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa along Cenang Beach.
The 3.8 km swim features an age group rolling start where athletes cross a timing mat on the beach before entering the water 4 or 5 at a time. Upon swim completion, athletes complete a 200m run to Transition 1 (T1). Water temperatures hover around 28°C (82°F), making it a non-wetsuit swim.
The 180 km two-loop bike course heads out of Pantai Kok towards Jalan Teluk Yu on a clockwise loop through the rolling hills of Datai towards the southeastern region of the island. Athletes will pass local villages ('Kampungs'), winding terrain, and The Langkawi Falls on route to the Datai turnaround before returning along the coastline of Pantai Kok toward Transition 2 (T2).
The 42.2 km run course exits T2 adjacent to the Langkawi International Airport runway. The flat 2-lap run leads athletes into the beachfront of Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa, showcasing the oceanfront scenery of Cenang Beach.
