City insight: Palanpur
Palanpur is a town in northern Gujarat, near the Rajasthan border and the Aravalli hills, a diamond-trading centre on a dry plain. The climate is hot and semi-arid: summers (March to June) are very hot, the monsoon (July to September) is moderate, and winters (November to February) are mild and dry. October to February is the best time to race. It is reached by road and rail from Ahmedabad, about three hours away.
