The inaugural IRONMAN Valdivia celebrates the region’s rich cultural blend—rooted in Mapuche traditions and shaped by Spanish and German heritage—set against Chile’s stunning southern landscapes. Located in the beer capital of southern Chile, this event transforms the course into a full-distance IRONMAN.
Athletes will immerse themselves in the crystal-clear waters of the Calle-Calle River, test their limits on a panoramic and fast bike course, and run through beautiful natural landscapes in the city center while crossing iconic bridges.
Historical Weather Overview:
All participants must download, print, sign, and bring the Mandatory Athlete Waiver to athlete check-in on event day. Only signed waivers will be accepted. Athlete age group category is calculated based on age as of December 31 of the event year.
Swim: One-way point-to-point swim along the Calle-Calle and CauCau Rivers starting near CAR Nautico. Bike: 2-loop, 180 km course starting near Tres Marías airfield, passing Cabo Blanco, Cruces River, Cayumapu River, Máfil, and Pichoy Memorial Bridge on smooth asphalt. Run: Flat 42 km 3-loop route starting at Saval Park on Isla Teja, crossing the Cau-Cau, Calle-Calle, and Pedro de Valdivia bridges along Av España and Costanera.
The swimming segment is a one-way route, entering the water on the waterfront of the Calle-Calle River, in front of the Nautic training station (CAR Nautico), to head along the initial arm of the CauCau River. Starting time is timed with little to no river current, so athletes simply follow the line of buoys. Wetsuits are mandatory.
The IRONMAN 140.6 Valdivia features a 2-loop, 180 km (112-mile) bike course renowned for its scenic beauty and fast, predominantly flat terrain. Well-maintained asphalt ensures a smooth ride, with expected average speeds around 37.5 km/h.
The run course is a flat and scenic 42 km (23.2-mile) route showcasing the city's urban landscapes. Starting at Saval Park on Isla Teja, runners traverse iconic bridges (Cau-Cau, Calle-Calle, and Pedro de Valdivia), head along Av España to Valdivia's Costanera, and complete 3 loops between Costanera and Avenida España.
