The race takes place on the Turkey Run Trail at West Point Lake, Georgia. Runners complete 5K loops, and the loop format means you return to the start/finish area frequently for aid and encouragement. Each loop has scenic grassy trails along the lake, shaded single-track through the woods, and a short paved section.
It is July in Georgia and it will be hot. The loops get tougher as the day goes on.
West Point Lake is a man-made reservoir in west-central Georgia on the Chattahoochee River, maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is the smallest of the four major Corps lakes in the ACF River Basin by water area, at 25,864 acres. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers, so spring and autumn are the best seasons to race.
