La Jornada de las Quebradas

Ultra53KOpen

About the race

We can guarantee a stunning and challenging race course and an old-school ultra running feel. This is a relatively minimalist race in which runners will need to make do with adequate but minimal course markings and similarly adequate but minimal aid stations.

A portion of the profits from this race will go toward funding the Socorro High School Cross Country team and maintenance of our local trails.

We greatly appreciate anybody who comes to experience the incredible trail running that Socorro has to offer.

Check-in and parking

Check-in

Check-in is from 6:00 to 6:45 AM. Bibs will be handed out at the start line. There will be at least two portable toilets at the start area. Runners can also find public restrooms at Escondida Lake Picnic Area.

Driving directions and parking

The race begins at a small pullout off the Quebradas backcountry byway. The road to this location is well maintained and drivable in most sedans, but there is some washboard, so runners who want to avoid bumpy sections are encouraged to carpool.

The pullout should be large enough for all runners. If not, there are pullouts that can accommodate some vehicles within 0.5 miles of the race start.

Runners can carpool to the start from Escondida bridge park, just before the crossing of the Rio Grande, which has plenty of parking. From there, it is a 3-minute drive to the Quebradas backcountry byway and another 7 minutes on the dirt road to the race start. We strongly encourage carpooling if possible.

Awards

First place of each category will receive a $50 REI gift card and a customized trophy.

Cancellation policy

Only a partial refund will be given for race cancellations or delays resulting from extreme weather conditions or public land closures occurring within the last week before the event. Registration fees are non-recoverable pre-event expenses.

Applies if you cancel your own registration. Cancellations and refunds are the organiser's responsibility and are processed by them. Endurace helps where it can, but cannot guarantee a refund.

City insight: Socorro

Socorro is a city and the county seat of Socorro County in central New Mexico, set in the Rio Grande Valley at about 4,579 feet (1,396 m) elevation. It had 8,707 residents at the 2020 census and lies 74 miles south of Albuquerque. Its high desert climate brings hot summers and cool winters, so spring and autumn are the best seasons to race.
