About the race
At this time, we are unable to obtain the official race permit. Mantua Reservoir is undergoing a potential transition to Utah State Parks management.
The Mantua Reservoir Trail is exactly 4.1 miles on a loop, with no out-and-backs just to make the mileage. The loop will make each yard fly by seamlessly, and runners can picture headlamps surrounding the lake during the nighttime hours.
The race is situated on Mantua Reservoir, with plenty of scenery and wildlife. Springtime in Mantua is highlighted by the famous Mantua Poppy Fields, along with green farmland and mountain hillsides surrounding the reservoir.
The Backyard Ultra format is a good first ultra for runners who want to dip their toes into ultra marathons, letting them test their limits for as long as they want with no mandatory distance. It is also suited to experienced ultra runners who want to take their race beyond 100 miles (belt buckle) or even into the 200+ mile range attained by many premier Backyard Ultras.
Race permit and payment
At this time, we are unable to obtain the official race permit. Credit cards will not be charged until the race permit is official.
The course
The race is a loop on the Mantua Reservoir Trail, 4.1 miles per loop. The trail is flat and fast with firm dirt and some gravel. Runners race for as long as they want with no mandatory distance.
Conditions
Temperatures should be ideal in May.
