Kailua-Kona is a town on the west coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, known as the home of the IRONMAN World Championship, with a dry, sunny coast, lava fields and clear, warm sea water. It is warm all year: summers (May to October) are hot and sunny, winters (November to April) are slightly cooler with more rain. Conditions are hot, humid and windy on race day, and the lava fields reflect heat. Kona International Airport is close to the town.
