Welcome to the 3rd Annual Sombrero Sizzler presented by Sombrero Running Events. Runners and ruckers circle a 1.25 mile loop of 3/4 asphalt road and 1/4 concrete walking path, with a short grassy area at the end, shaded by pine trees for 3, 6, 9 or 12 hours.
The course is pancake flat and fast, on a former active military base (Cecil Field). There will be plenty of fun and heat to go around.
One main aid station is at the start/finish line in the main pavilion area, with standard Ultra foods and Skratch Electrolyte for hydration.
Food is grilled ALL DAY: breakfast foods, burgers (vegan as well), brats, Italian sausage and BACON. We always try to have vegan options.
Set up begins Saturday July 18th at 6 am, with packet pickup. All races begin at 7:00 am, with a pre-race briefing at 6:50 am.
Parking is on the road leading into the pavilion area, where you pass each loop, giving easy access to your vehicle and set-up area. No parking in the pavilion area.
We give OA top 3 in each event, plus special awards for those who inspire us and push their limits and comfort zones. Relay team divisions also get awards; the number depends on participation.
Each participant receives a custom medal, including each member of a team. Other giveaway items are to be announced.
There are several hotels and restaurants within 3-5 miles of the course.
Sombrero Sizzler follows the ruck weight regulation guidelines:
We use the honor system. You can use plate, brick or sandbag.
The relay option is available for the 6 hour race. Teams have 4 people, with any combination of genders. You can split the time and distances any way you like. Teams must switch the bib and timing chip between team members.
There are no refunds for this event. If you cannot attend, let us know and we will treat your entry as a donation.

Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida by area, on the St. Johns River and the Atlantic coast, with long beaches and a flat landscape. The climate is humid subtropical: summers (June to September) are hot and humid with storms, autumn is warm with some hurricane risk, winters (December to February) are mild, and spring is warm. Autumn to spring is the best time for racing. The city has an international airport.
