City insight: Desaru
Desaru is a beach resort area on the east coast of Johor, in southern Malaysia, with a long sandy coast, golf courses and resorts, about two hours by road from Singapore. The climate is tropical: it is hot and humid all year, with the heavier north-east monsoon rains from November to March, and drier, sunnier weather from April to October. The drier months are the best for racing, with early starts to avoid the heat. The sea is warm all year, though it can be rough in the monsoon. Reached by road from Singapore or Johor Bahru.
