Merritt is a city in the Nicola Valley of south-central British Columbia, Canada, 270 km northeast of Vancouver, at the confluence of the Nicola and Coldwater rivers. It is the gateway to the B.C. Interior and was named in 1906 after mining engineer William Hamilton Merritt III. The region has hot, dry summers and cold winters, so late spring and early autumn are the best seasons to race.
