Leadville is a statutory city and the county seat of Lake County, Colorado, and the highest incorporated city in the United States at 10,119 feet. It is a former silver mining town with a 2020 population of 2,633, surrounded by Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. The climate is cold and high-altitude, with short, cool summers, so July and August are the best months to race, though the thin air is demanding.
