Salt City Trail Racing, in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation - Central Region, is pleased to announce the 10th running of English's Ridge Rumble, the first event of our 2027 race calendar.
If this is your first trail race or visit at Green Lakes State Park, you are in for a treat! This race has become a very popular season opener for trail veterans and newbies alike.
Green Lakes State Park outside of Syracuse, NY is the most visited of all New York State Parks and is named for the striking blue green color of its two meromictic lakes, a rare phenomenon in which the layers of water do not mix.
With a runnable elevation profile, largely non-technical trail conditions, and generous cutoffs, English's Ridge Rumble is a great race for first times AND fast times. The race is named for race founder Scott English, is USATF-sanctioned, Trail Sisters approved, and a UTMB Index Race.
There are two aid stations, one at the Start/Finish and one on course that runners pass once per loop at mile ~5.5 (in the so-called "Serengeti").
The race begins and ends at the Reserve Picnic Shelter.
Cutoffs are generous and intended to be approachable for first timers.
Deferrals are available in case of pregnancy, injury, illness, or electing to volunteer at the race. Bib changes are permitted until two weeks before the event. Distance changes are permitted until online registration closes.
The race begins and ends at the Reserve Picnic Shelter. The course features many of the most iconic corners of the park, including The Serengeti, Round Lake, the Powerline Bypass, and Quarry Hill. In between, you'll find yourself amidst open fields with sweeping vistas and towering old growth forest.
The course has about 1,300 feet of elevation gain, with varied trail including some technical (rocks and roots) sections, though the majority is double-track made up of either mulch beds, gravel, or grass and a small portion of paved park road.
English's Ridge Rumble traditionally takes place in mid-April, which means conditions could be snowy and cold or sunny and warm, so it's up to you to be prepared for whatever the CNY weather brings us on race day.
Fayetteville is a city in the U.S. state of Arkansas and the county seat of Washington County. Summers are hot and humid, so spring and autumn are the best seasons to race.
