City insight: Denver
Denver is the capital of Colorado, on the High Plains just east of the Rocky Mountains, nicknamed the Mile High City because it sits one mile (about 1,609 m) above sea level. The climate is cool semi-arid, with low humidity, around 3,100 hours of sunshine a year and four distinct seasons. Summers are warm to hot with afternoon thunderstorms, winters bring snow and cold spells, and the weather can change suddenly. Late spring to early autumn is the best time to race, with the strongest sun and heat in July. The altitude can make hard efforts feel tougher, so allow time to adjust.
