Cameron is a census-designated place and the parish seat of Cameron Parish in southwest Louisiana, part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community suffered extreme damage from Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008, and it had a population of 315 at the 2020 census. The Gulf Coast climate is hot and humid in summer and mild in winter, so the cooler months from late autumn through spring are the best time to race.
