The Belagavi Hill Survival Challenge (BHSC) is one of Karnataka's premier self-supported trail running events, taking runners through the rugged hills surrounding Belagavi (Belgaum) in the northern Western Ghats. Organized by Belagavi Endurance Sports, a volunteer-led non-profit trail running community, BHSC introduces runners to authentic off-road self-supported running while offering a challenging and rewarding mountain experience. From beginner-friendly hill races to an ITRA-recognised 50 km ultra, the event welcomes runners of all experience levels.
Featuring 100% natural trails, steady climbs, technical descents, and panoramic views of the Western Ghats, the event is known for its rolling hills, forests, and pleasant winter weather in late October.
Every category is run entirely on natural terrain consisting of forest trails, mud paths, rocky sections, continuous climbs and descents, open ridgelines, and technical hill running. Unlike road races, the terrain requires careful pacing, sure-footedness, and good trail running technique. Trail shoes with reliable grip are strongly recommended.
The Belagavi hills reward runners who pace themselves well. Recommended preparations include:
